The Student Advisory Services has organised the first UM Conference for Career Guidance Practitioners on Thursday 21 March 2024. The Conference was aimed at Guidance Teachers and Career Advisors working in Secondary and Post-Secondary Schools and Colleges in Malta and Gozo (public, private and church schools included). Several Employment Advisors from Jobs Plus were also present.
Opening remarks were delivered by Ms Carmen Mangion, Deputy Registrar, who stressed about the importance of Guidance Practitioners to our University students.
Guest speakers included Mr Pierre Cassar, Administrative Director, Marketing, Communications & Alumni Office who delivered a presentation about University in Numbers. Prof. Andrew Azzopardi, Dean, Faculty for Social Wellbeing followed by delivering a presentation about the importance of challenging the norms.
The Conference included a panel discussion about the services being offered to prospective University applicants and a second panel discussion about support services offered to our current student population.
All sessions were aimed to help guidance practitioners get updated information at source and disseminate this information to prospective students, which will be the University's population in a couple of years' time. In addition it also served as a networking opportunity to create long-term relationships between professionals.
The Conference was coordinated by Mr Noel Caruana and Ms Rebecca Grech, Student Advisors at the University of Malta.
