Last Friday, we marked our official launch of ArchiVisit 2024.
ArchiVisit is a yearly educational trip to London organised by SACES in collaboration with iAS, where students get hands-on experience through visiting international architectural firms, construction sites and more. This initiative provides students with the opportunity to get a better feel of the architectural world outside the university walls.
This conference brought to light the importance of such educational initiatives in students' education. During this press conference, we welcomed this year's sponsors; Building Construction Authority (BCA), Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), Planning Authority (PA), Bonnici Brothers, JS Dimech, Mediterranean Building Finishes (MBF), and Halmann Vella. We got the opportunity to personally extend our gratitude towards them for their generous contributions, as their help allowed us to bring this project to the students in the Faculty of the Built Environment.
At the start of the conference, the founder of ArchiVisit, Perit Mark Borg, gave a speech wherein he provided students with insights on the different places they will be visiting, including architecture firms such as SOM, ARUP and LOM. Moreover, students will also be visiting one of the best renowned architecture universities in Europe, Bartlett School of Architecture, where they will see a summer show of students works.
Following Perit Borg, the Dean of the Faculty of the Built Environment, Prof. Mark Bonello, gave a speech encouraging students to get involved in such initiatives, as one would get the opportunity to expose themselves to construction and finishing techniques which are not typically seen on our island.
Perit Roderick Bonnici, and Perit Kevin Fsadni, representing BCA and MTA respectively, gave short speeches wherein they expressed how these experiences and initiatives shaped and influenced the way they viewed architecture, which in turn helped them pursue the course differently.
To close off the conference, the President of SACES, Francesco Cassar, thanked the sponsors for their support and generosity, ending his speech with a personal sentiment on the importance of such initiatives regarding the development of students’ studies and interests.
