For the third consecutive year, FEMA – through the direct impetus of the Department of Public Policy – has produced and presented Agora – the political talk-show aired and streamed LIVE every Saturday morning on Campus 103.7, the radio station of the University of Malta.
During the academic year 2023/24, 39 new programmes were aired. Media productions help our Faculty to enhance its relevance and visibility beyond campus and, at the same time, secure a greater national impact as contemplated in the UM strategy for 2020/25.
The following are official statistics highlighting what we have achieved together:
- Number of programmes: 39
- Number of guests: 212
- Hours of live transmission: 78 hours (from October 2023 to July 2024)
- Number of themes discussed: 85
The series host, Prof. Mario Thomas Vassallo, discussed a whole variety of themes with the intervention of studio and remote guests.
The themes were topical and insightful, ranging from politics to society, from domestic to European affairs, from economics to justice and the environment, and from religion to ethics to standards in public and professional life.
Moreover, this year’s AGORA included a series of political debates which led to the elections of the European Parliament and Local Councils.
The President of Malta, H.E. George Vella, was among the VIPs interviewed. Other VIPs included the Auditor General, the Ombudsman, the Speaker of the House, Ambassadors, parliamentarians, academics and leaders of trade unions, employers’ associations and civil society groups. University and Public Policy students were also invited to contribute their thoughts.
The last programme of the AGORA series will be aired on 29 June from 09:00 to 11:00. AGORA will resume after the summer recess.
Kudos to this collaboration between the Department of Public Policy and Campus 103.7 that continues to assert the national impact of the University of Malta.
