On the weekend of 22-23 June 2024, the general public was able to witness an inspiring display of the next generation of engineers' potential to drive technological advancements and contribute to societal progress, as they were able to visit the 70 exhibited innovative Final Year Engineering Projects completed by students at the Faculty of Engineering.
The Final Year Engineering Projects Exhibition is a significant milestone for students, representing the culmination of years of hard work, learning, and innovation. For the students, it is an opportunity to showcase their skills, creativity, and the practical application of their academic knowledge in solving real-world problems. This event serves as a bridge between their academic journey and professional careers, providing valuable exposure and experience.
Speaking at the Opening Ceremony of the Exhibition, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ing. Andrew Sammut, said this is an opportunity for the Faculty and students to showcase their potential. He said this year’s edition further highlighted the University's commitment to fostering talent that can address contemporary challenges with innovative solutions.
He spoke in the presence of Malta’s Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works, Hon. Dr Omar Farrugia, UM’s Pro-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer, Prof. Ing. Simon Fabri, President of the Malta Association of Professional Engineers, Ing. Arthur Ciantar, President of the Chamber of Engineers, Ing. Malcolm Zammit, and an audience of students, present and past, together with their relatives.
As the 23 June also happened to be International Women in Engineering Day, the Faculty this year chose to highlight the personal journeys of two of its female students, Zachea and Semira, and also held an informal discussion aimed at young women interested in joining the engineering pathway, where they were able to speak to female engineers and STEM professionals at different levels.
More details about the individual projects exhibited and the masterminds behind them can be found on the yearly Faculty of Engineering Projects booklet, available online.
