Prof. Maria Attard, the Director of the Institute for Climate Change and Sustainable Development, has recently been asked to attend the very prestigious US-EU Symposium ‘Global Pathways to Net-Zero: Behavioural, Social and Technological Research and Innovation Strategies for Transportation’.
Organised by the US Department of Transportation and the European Commission and hosted by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine and Transportation Research Board in Washington D.C, the Symposium explored, in the presence of experts from both continents, common challenges and potential research collaboration areas.
Prof. Attard contributed to the working group looking at implementing sustainable and resilient land use and transport system design.
The main topics of electrification, innovation and equity were discussed, as were project financing, better understanding of scales, speed and population density, the role of nature to help with resilience and the importance of research in politics, governance and policies to ensure a faster implementation of good practices.
A follow-up report on the proceedings will be published shortly.
