In their commitment to ensure a continuous flow of valuable data, Adam Gauci and David Ramirez recently deployed an NKE float, an essential instrument in their research toolkit. This sophisticated device is designed to measure various oceanographic parameters such as temperature, salinity, and oxygen, at different depths as it drifts with the ocean currents. Such measurements are pivotal for understanding ocean circulation, climate change, and marine ecosystems. After every dive, this information is relayed back via satellite, where it is quality controlled by Audrey Zammit. This initiative was done in collaboration with Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale (OGS) in Trieste, Italy.
Aspiring oceanographers passionate about the sea and eager to make a difference, are encouraged to join the vibrant team at the Oceanography Malta Research Group. By enrolling in the Master’s course in Applied Oceanography that is coordinated by Prof. Alan Deidun, students can engage in meaningful research and contribute to the ongoing efforts to uncover the secrets of the sea around us. This unique program provides students with the opportunity to learn from experts and participate in hands-on activities. What are you waiting for? Dive IN!
