Prof. Maria Attard is the new Chair of NECTAR, the Network on European Communications and Transport Activity Research.

NECTAR is a multi-disciplinary scientific network established in 1992.

The primary objective is to foster research collaboration and exchange of information between experts in the field of transport, communication and mobility from all European countries and the rest of the world.

The bi-annual NECTAR Conference brings together a wide variety of transport researchers whilst the eight NECTAR clusters organise various workshops on various themes such as transport infrastructures, policy and environment, accessibility, logistics, transitions, social and health issues, ICT and tourism travel.

Prof. Maria Attard takes over as Chair from Prof. Karst Geurs (University of Twente) at the end of the 17th NECTAR Conference, successfully organised by the Mobilise Research Group at the VUB in Brussels this July.

She is the first Maltese Chair following past presidents Prof. Aura Reggiani (University of Bologna), the late Prof. Piet Rietveld and Prof. Peter Nijkamp (Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam).
