The Head of the Department of Media and Communication in the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences, Prof. Ġorġ Mallia, presented a paper on sustainability practices in media education at the 24th International Conference on Information Communication Technologies in Education (ICICTE 2024).
The conference took place in Chania, Crete, between the 9 and 11 July 2024.
The paper, co-authored with Dr Monika Maslowska from the same department, addressed the sustainable development goals (SDGs) as part of an EU co-funded project named SUMED.
The project links five institutions from four countries, namely Poland, Finland, Spain, and Malta, focusing on university-level media content and the media industry.
The research looks at work carried out by the partners and analyses how sustainability goals are integrated into both academic curricula and industry practices.
It aims to develop new, or redesign, curricula that incorporate SDGs in media courses, equipping students with the knowledge and skills for application in the media industry as future media professionals.
The paper explored various approaches taken by the SUMED project partners to achieve these objectives, providing insights into the implementation of sustainability practices at the university level and in the workplace.
