From 27 to 31 May 2024, the Algeciras School of Engineering and Technology (ASET) forming part of the University of Cadiz (UCA, Spain) hosted a dynamic International SEA-EU Staff Week under the title “Research and Technology Transfer at ASET: our experience and cooperation opportunities” (ISW-ASET 2024). The University of Malta was represented by Ing. Christian Grima from the Faculty of Engineering.
This event served as a crucial platform that brought together researchers and staff from eight countries and nine universities to engage in knowledge exchange, foster new collaborations, and invest in both collective and individual growth.
Participants were treated to a comprehensive programme, which included visits to the newly inaugurated UCA-SEA building. This state-of-the-art facility houses numerous laboratories dedicated to cutting-edge research, underscoring the host university’s commitment to scientific and technological advancement.
Throughout the week, ten distinguished research groups presented their latest work, providing insights into a wide range of fields including engineering, geosciences, materials innovation and sustainable technologies. These presentations highlighted ongoing research and developments allowing attendees to stay abreast of current trends and innovations in their respective fields.
The event emphasised the importance of collaboration, offering numerous opportunities for attendees to network, share ideas, and explore potential partnerships. By bringing together a diverse array of experts, the International Staff Week fostered a vibrant exchange of knowledge and expertise, ultimately enriching the academic community.
“As a systems engineer from the University of Malta, the staff week served as a window of exposure to advanced research techniques and to establish valuable connections with fellow staff and researchers - says Ing. Grima. This experience not only enriched my personal knowledge but, through networking, also facilitates new collaborative opportunities with the University of Malta, in turn, enhancing research capabilities and fostering European and international partnerships.”
Moreover, the event focused on personal development, recognising that investing in individuals is key to enhancing the collective. Through engaging presentations, interactive sessions, and collaborative discussions, participants were able to develop new skills, gain fresh perspectives, and enhance their professional networks.
The International SEA-EU Staff Week at the Algeciras School of Engineering and Technology was a resounding success highlighting a dedication to fostering a collaborative and innovative research environment. It not only advanced ongoing research efforts but also strengthened the bonds within the global academic community, paving the way for future breakthroughs and collaborations.
Participation was coordinated by the SEA-EU Office at UM and supported by the International Office via the Erasmus+ funding.
