The recent SEA-EU Staff Week, held from Tuesday 25 June to Friday 28 June at the University of Split, was organised to finalise the preparation of the Marine Data Literacy (MDL) Course, a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) supported through ERASMUS+ funds.
During the staff week, discussions covered a range of topics essential for the success of the course. Sessions included a review of the previous MDL course, planning for the online components, and the integration of practical and project-based learning modes.
Among the attendees were Adam Gauci, Audrey Zammit, and David Montano from the Department of Geosciences. These played a pivotal role in shaping the program and their contributions were instrumental in designing both the online lectures as well as the practical sessions that will be offered in Gdansk during the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic year.
The MDL Course is an innovative initiative under the SEA-EU alliance, focusing on equipping participants with essential skills in marine data management and application. The course will be divided into comprehensive online modules and hands-on practical sessions. The practical component, in particular, will provide students with real-world experience in marine data collection and analysis, facilitating a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
The SEA-EU Staff Week not only facilitated the finalisation of the MDL course but also fostered collaboration and knowledge exchange among the participating universities. This collective effort is set to produce a robust educational program that will significantly benefit students and professionals in the field of marine data literacy.
Following the implementation in Gdansk, the Oceanography Malta Research Group, under the direction of Prof. Alan Deidun, will organise the MDL course in Malta furthering the University's commitment to marine education and research.
Participation was coordinated by the SEA-EU Office at UM and supported by the International Office via the Erasmus+ funding.
