On Friday 19 July 2024, Dr Matthew Agius from the Seismic Monitoring and Research Group within the Department of Geosciences at the University of Malta, kicked off a series of summer STEAM sessions with Kids on Campus students.
He delivered an interesting session about earthquakes, surface waves, rock cycles, plat tectonics and much more.
This was just the first of the many STEAM sessions that are part of this exciting summer programme!
“We cannot overstate the importance of introducing STEAM education to younger children, as early exposure to these disciplines fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, which are essential for their cognitive development. Early STEAM education helps demystify complex subjects, making them more accessible and less intimidating as students progress in their education,” said Ms Danielle Martine Farrugia, UM’s Science Engagement Senior Executive.
