Professor Odette Vassallo has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, succeeding Alfred Camilleri, who expressed his desire to step down from the position.
Prof. Vassallo has extensive experience in the educational sector. She graduated in English from the University of Malta and earned both a Master's and a Doctorate from Nottingham University in England. She has served as the Chairperson of the MATSEC Board, and is currently the Director of the Centre for English Language Proficiency as well as an Associate Professor at the Department of English within the Faculty of Arts.
Minister for National Heritage, Arts and Local Government, Hon. Owen Bonnici, praised Alfred Camilleri for his significant contributions to the Orchestra, noting that he remains a steadfast friend to the artistic and cultural sector. Bonnici highlighted the important changes implemented by Camilleri during his tenure, which have paved the way for future developments.
The Minister also expressed his gratitude to Professor Vassallo for accepting the appointment, stating that her expertise and experience will enhance the collaboration between the Orchestra and the educational sector.
