The University of Burgos recently hosted Dr Ing. Lawrence Farrugia Caruana, Dr Jacqueline Zammit, and Prof. Leonard Busuttil for an in-person teacher training. This training was organised as part of the Erasmus+ project "Children as Creators of Augmented Reality Stories" (CARS), which is being co-ordinated by the University of Malta.
The training sessions, held from Monday 7 October to Wednesday 9 October 2024, aimed to provide teachers from partner schools with deeper insights into the pedagogical and technical aspects of using augmented reality (AR) in language learning.
Teachers from St. Catherine’s High School (Malta), Colegio Aurelio Gómez Escolar (Spain), and Dimotiko Scholeio Agias Napas (Cyprus) participated in hands-on workshops to explore AR technology and address the challenges of integrating it into their language curricula. Colegio Aurelio Gómez Escolar, a local school that has already started implementing AR for language instruction, warmly welcomed the visiting academics and their sessions.
The project's principal investigator, Dr Ing. Lawrence Farrugia Caruana, appeared on a podcast run by Colegio Aurelio Gómez Escolar during the school visit. In the podcast, he discussed the project's origins, ongoing work, and potential future developments, providing insights into how AR can transform children’s learning experience in school.
The training sessions were well-attended by educators from Malta, Spain, and Cyprus, offering them practical strategies and skills to effectively use AR in the classroom.
