Dr Claudine Borg, Head of the Department of Translation, Terminology and Interpreting Studies, and Dr Marilyn Mallia, Senior Lecturer in the Department of French, have teamed up to present a paper at the international Conference: âAnnie Ernaux: Global Perspectivesâ at the University of Edinburgh and the University of St Andrews.
Their joint presentation, entitled âTeaching and Translating Annie Ernauxâs 'LâĂ©vĂ©nement' in the Maltese contextâ, which explored the significance of their professional engagement with this French writerâs work as well as its specific challenges, was enthusiastically received by the academic community.
Ernaux received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2022 âfor the courage and clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements and collective restraints of personal memoryâ. The conference included a live virtual encounter with the author herself, who responded to a number of questions.
