The University of Malta was honoured to have joined in the nationwide initiative to shine a spotlight on Mental Health, by having lit its Gateway Building in Green.
World Mental Health Day, celebrated globally on 10 October, tries to break the stigma surrounding mental health issues, encouraging open conversations about these struggles.
Malta’s Health Minister, Hon. Jo Etienne Abela, issued a statement for the day, urging everyone who is going through a rough time to seek help through the appropriate channels. He also said that the 1579 helpline assisted almost 16,000 individuals in the last two years.
The UM community also has a number of services to avail of when in need, such as the Counselling Unit, the Chaplaincy, and the Student Solidarity Fund.
Other buildings that were lit up in green for the day included: Mater Dei Hospital, St Vincent de Paul, Mercury Malta and The Brewhouse Malta.
