Welcome to the University of Malta, L-Università ta’ Malta, and this beautiful and peaceful island in the blue Mediterranean.
Do not let the delights of Malta distract you and take you away from your studies for longer than you can afford because you need to show yourself and the world that you can take on the challenge, shine and come through as a successful graduate in three, four, or even five years’ time.
The ability to communicate is important, and learning up-to-date and advanced stuff about your chosen subject and passing exams will reassure you of your intelligence and personal growth.
To have the confidence and not be afraid to state your mind is key: self-confidence to tell, in speech or writing, what needs to be told, calmly, politely and without fear.
This speaks to the need for you to give us feedback about your experience in the lecture room, lab, or any other learning space, to help us recognise and correct faults or imperfections to improve our act and serve you better.
Speaking your mind boldly, truthfully and without hesitation, is the hallmark of the highly educated; that’s You, at the University.
Staying silent, meek and submissive in the face of adversity reeks of ignorance and a moronic disposition, which is not you.
Not being afraid to state your mind about the goings-on in the world beyond the campus is also necessary and important if you are to assert your place as a significant citizen of the planet.
A university education should free you to express yourself boldly, truthfully and without hesitation, against injustices, stupidity, greed, indifference, cruelty and hatred.
