If you've recently popped by the University's Faculty for the Built Environment, then you were greeted by Santa Cement, a two-metre statue by architecture graduate Karl Sammut and student Julian Cassar.
The statue was created as part of the annual SACES (Society of Architecture & Civil Engineering Students) Malta workshop. The two creators had to develop an installation and build it over one weekend.
It is meant as a statement about Malta's addiction to rapid development.
After the SACES workshop, it was decided that the statue would be transferred to the entrance of the Faculty, together with a slogan reading 'Will you worship me?' (ħa tadurani?).
In a thought-provoking statement, the two said a student's voice can be a powerful force for change.
