Last week, on the first week of November 2024, the Confucius Institute celebrated its 15th anniversary since its inception in 2009, by holding a special anniversary celebration.
This celebration featured performances by university students, primary and secondary school students and other people linked to the Institute.
The Confucius Institute at the University of Malta fosters mutual understanding and respect between Malta and China. The institute offers language courses, cultural workshops, and community events that celebrate Chinese traditions and foster global citizenship. It serves as a resource for students, academics, and the Maltese community, providing valuable insights into Chinese society and encouraging cross-cultural dialogue.
Special guest, Mr Peng Yijun, the Chargé d'Affaires from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, commended the cooperation between UM and Xiamen University, which has over the past 15 years, served to promote the teaching and learning of the Chinese language in Malta, deepen the local understanding of Chinese culture and foster both educational and cultural exchanges between Malta and China.
Also in attendance were UM Rector, Prof. Alfred J. Vella, and Pro-Rector for International Development & Quality Assurance, Prof. Frank Bezzina.
