On 19 September 2024, His Grace the Archbishop Mgr Dr Charles J. Scicluna and the Auxiliary Bishop Mgr Dr Joseph Galea-Curmi, received the co-editors of Vinċens Ciappara – Leħen il-Muża, Prof. Lino Bianco (invited professor at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome) and his daughter Alessandra Bianco (a PhD Candidate under the academic supervision of Prof. Philip Farrugia).
This book, a publication by Kite Group, follows years of meticulous study of unpublished, mostly in manuscript form, poems of the late Vinċens Ciappara (1917–1992), the former Cantor of the St Helen's Basilica (1945–1992), written mainly in Maltese, Latin, Italian and English. It has a foreword by His Grace the Archbishop and a critical introduction by Dr David Aloisio. The non-Maltese poems are reproduced in the original language in which they were written. The translation into Maltese are in separate appendices. The poems in Latin were translated by Dr Alan Joseph Adami OP, lecturer at the Angelicum, Rome, whilst those English and Italian were translated by René Monseigneur. During the launch, the Dean of the Faculty of Theology Rev. Prof. Stefan Attard spoke about the relevance and significance of such a publication not only to literature in Maltese language but also to theological thought.
This publication is dedicated to the late scholar of Maltese literature Prof. Oliver Friggieri who passed away prior completing the critical introduction. Comments on this volume included input from the late Professor Charles Briffa (formerly of the Department of Translation, Terminology & Interpreting Studies, Faculty of Arts), Dr Terence Portelli (Department of Languages & Humanities Education, Faculty of Education) and lawyer and poet Dr Alfred Grech.
