At just 26 years of age, Mirko is carrying research about variational quantum algorithms, about to get his doctorate. He’s also been chosen to represent the University at the 2024 Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting, held earlier this year, where he gathered with other young scientists from across the world, becoming an ambassador for scientific dialogue.
In the area of quantum technology, which is based on the technologies of quantum mechanics, or the science of very small things, enabling us to achieve powerful computers, greater sensing technology and more secure communication channels.
He is currently a Research Support Officer at UM within the Department of Communications & Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Information & Communication Technology.
Mirko says collaboration is invaluable in research because it enables us to foster innovation, establish practical results and push forward the boundaries of science. He also firmly believes that science is open to any gender, race or beliefs, and the only question asked to someone who’s interested in pursuing studies or a career in it, should be ‘are you passionate enough to follow it?’
