Congratulations are in order for Janet Richard and Beppe Grillo, who were recently crowned as Athletes of the Year by the Athletics Malta Association.
Grillo, who has been involved in athletics since he was 14, has had a year full of accomplishments, culminating in the shattering a 100m national record with a time of 10.23 seconds at the Balkan Championships, winning a bronze medal for Malta.
It’s Richard’s fifth time receiving this award, after another winning season – acquiring a medal for Malta at the Athletics Championships of the Small States of Europe.
More awards were given out throughout the ceremony, with the other senior winners being Claire Azzopardi and Omar El Aida Chaffey (Sprints), Rebecca Sare and Armani James (Jumps) Bradley Mifsud and Antonella Chouhal (Throws), Luke Micallef and Rosalie Cauchi (Hurdles/Steeplechase), Jared Micallef and Janet Richard (Middle Distance) as well as Jordan Gusman and Gina McNamara (Long Distance).
Antonella Chouhal and Charles Cilia were awarded Master Athlete of the Year.
