Bob Selderslaghs, from the University of Antwerp, was invited by Prof. Isabelle Gatt to lead a series of workshops in Malta, centred around the “Mantle of the Expert” approach. Pioneered by Dorothy Heathcote, this method encourages students to assume the roles of experts within various scenarios, thus fostering creativity, critical thinking, and active participation in the learning process.
Throughout the sessions, Bob demonstrated how this approach can be effectively applied within primary education, enabling students to engage deeply with complex topics through role-play. This not only enhances their learning experience but also promotes a sense of ownership and responsibility.
These workshops provided an invaluable opportunity for both MTL Drama and MTL Primary Education students to gain first-hand experience of this innovative teaching method, allowing them to reflect on its potential application in their own future practices.
