Prof. Lalit Garg from the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology recently visited the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET) in India as part of the Erasmus+ ICM programme. During his visit, Prof. Garg delivered lectures and shared his extensive research on Smart Healthcare, Digital Health Twins, Health 5.0, and the Internet of Health Things (IoHT). These lectures sparked stimulating discussions among academics, faculty members, PhD candidates, and Masters students from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Patiala Campus and LM Thapar School of Management (LMTSM) at the Derabassi Campus. In addition to delivering these impactful lectures, Prof. Garg held in-depth conversations with researchers and academics on various research topics and potential funding opportunities, emphasising how the University of Malta and TIET could further enhance their already successful collaboration.
Prof. Garg also met with key academic leaders at TIET, including Prof. Seema Bawa (Dean of Outreach), Prof. Maninder Singh (Dean of Academic Affairs) and Prof Vipul Gupta, Associate Dean of Internationalisation and other senior academics to discuss joint efforts to recruit students for semester exchanges and expanding joint research initiatives and establishing new academic joint degree programs that align with both universities' sustainability and growth strategies. These programs aim to provide students with unique international perspectives and a broad skill set, allowing them to complete portions of their studies at both institutions. These discussions sought to strengthen collaboration across multiple academic disciplines, with the shared objective of driving innovation and fostering sustainable advancement for both institutions.
During his trip to India, Prof. Garg also co-organised the first IEEE International Conference on Augmented Reality, Intelligent Systems, and Industrial Automation (ARIIA2024), held at Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, Karnataka, India on 20 and 21 December 2024, presented a paper at the 1st IEEE International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Innovation for Sustainability (EmergIN' 2024) on December 20-21, 2024, at the Noida Institute of Engineering & Technology (NIET) in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India and another paper at the 9th International Conference on Soft Computing: Theories and Applications (SoCTA 2024) organised from 27 to 29 December 2024, at Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur, India. These conferences facilitated interaction with hundreds of researchers, academicians, business leaders, and innovators from around the globe, enabling valuable exchanges on cutting-edge technologies, their real-world applications, and the transformative potential of AI and IoT across various sectors.
