Ms Nicola Montesin, speech-language pathologist with special interest in geriatric care and neurological diseases, recently delivered a lecture on dementia to students at the University of the Third Age (U3A).
The development of this lecture was kicked-off by her participation in the study-unit ACA0006 - Working with Older Persons: Quality Intergenerational Service-Provision, Lifelong Education, and Active Ageing during October 2024.
This is one of the study-units offered by the Department of Arts, Open Communities and Adult Education on a micro-credential basis.
The Office of the Commissioner for Older Persons sponsored all students’ participation in this study-unit.
Ms Montesin explained, "The study-unit equipped me with valuable insights into intergenerational approaches and active ageing, which directly informed the content of my lecture. During the lecture, I discussed dementia symptoms, progression, and person-centred care, leading to engaging and meaningful discussions with the U3A students. Interacting with these lifelong learners underscored the importance of education in enhancing service provision for older adults, and deepened my appreciation for intergenerational learning and collaboration."
