The Department of Sociology is pleased to announce the launch of the inaugural issue of SociologyMT, a new peer-reviewed, online journal that showcases research in sociology and related fields.
The launch event, held on Wednesday 9 April 2025, brought together staff, students, and guests, including Prof. Dominic Fenech, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, who expressed support for the initiative and commended the department’s commitment to fostering a vibrant research culture.
SociologyMT offers a platform for students, graduates, and academics to share their work on a wide array of sociological themes. The first issue features six contributions that reflect the breadth and relevance of sociological research within the local context. Topics include poverty in old age, the social relations of women’s organisations, the performance of self by drag queens, the meanings of house names in Senglea, the experiences of drug dependents following the Drug Court rehabilitation programme, and the role of soundscapes in shaping life in Birżebbuġa.
The editorial team is composed of Dr Kay Polidano (Editor-in-Chief), Dr Dylan Cassar, and Prof. Mark-Anthony Falzon.
The first issue of SociologyMT is now available on the journal’s website.
Submissions are welcome on a rolling basis throughout the year.
