The UM Chancellor, Judge Prof. David J. Attard, was invited to moderate at a conference organised by the International Maritime Organisation and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in London.

The Conference panels, which discussed various contemporary maritime issues, were made up of Judges, UN officials and Government representatives.

Amongst the topics discussed were:

• The ITLOS Advisory Opinion on climate change, 
• Arrest of ships, and 
• Fraudulent ship registration.

The conference brought together representatives from some hundred States and organisations.

The meeting was a prelude for future UN action which will be focusing on the subjects discussed and it is hoped that it will lead to the development of an instrument on ship registration which will be of great benefit to the maritime community
