The B.Sc. (Hons) Home Economics is a brand new degree being offered by the Department of Health, Physical Education and Consumer Studies of the Faculty of Education. With its focus on responsible resource management in the areas of food, textiles, housing, personal finance and family living, and its promotion of functional and creative development of products and services, this degree offers foundation training for careers or further studies in areas promoting wellbeing of individuals, families and society. It will also be a feeder degree for the upcoming Masters in Teaching and Learning in Home Economics and related Vocational subjects.
The B.Sc. (Hons) Home Economics is a full-time 3-year degree where students follow a set of core study-units, but can specialise in Health and Consumer Studies or Textiles, Fashion and Interiors Studies in their second and third year. This is the first time the University of Malta is offering a degree with a strong emphasis on Consumer Studies or Fashion and Interiors. Its transdisciplinary nature embraces a varied approach to learning, whilst nurturing multiple communication, project management and entrepreneurial skills.
