The MATSEC Examinations Board announces that the Matriculation Certificate results were issued today and the SEC examination results were issued yesterday. The target date (which is the last week of September) for publication of results for the September MATSEC examinations has been met consistently since 1994.
In Malta, the resit September examination for SEC gives students an added opportunity to obtain a pass qualification. Applicants for the Matriculation Examination have an added opportunity to upgrade their results and qualify for the Matriculation Certificate. These opportunities are offered just six weeks after the publication of the results of the May/June examination session in mid-July.
Applicants whose results for the Matriculation Examination September Session have just been published are advised that, in case of a positive result which should qualify them for the course of their choice, they can attend lectures and the Opening Ceremony on the 3rd October at the University, even before they receive their official letter of acceptance.
Over the years, the significant increase in candidates and changes in regulations have placed the MATSEC Unit under very tight deadlines.
Close to 5000 students sat for the September SEC and Matriculation examinations this year in a total of 60 subjects. Since the change in regulations in 2012, the number of Matriculation candidates has tripled from about 1000 to almost 3000 in 2016.
The last written examinations were held on the 5th September whilst oral examinations were scheduled till the 13th September. This allowed only 14 days for marking, checking and processing leading to the publication of results.
