Professor Angela Abela, from the Department of Family Studies at the Faculty for Social Wellbeing, was invited to deliver a presentation at the meeting of the Chairpersons of the Committees on Social Affairs of the EU countries.
The meeting, which was part of the parliamentary dimension of the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, was held on 24 March, in Malta. The theme of the meeting was 'Poverty and Social Exclusion: Working towards a more inclusive Europe'.
During the meeting, Professor Abela gave a presentation on 'Fighting Poverty and Social Exclusion by Nipping Poverty in the Bud: Examples of Good Practice'.
There were a number of presentations by other European officials, including that of the Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Labour Mobility. Members of Parliament from the 28 Member States actively participated in the discussions. Dr Andrew Azzopardi, Dean of the Faculty for Social Wellbeing, and other academics from the Faculty attended the meeting.
