The Faculty for Social Wellbeing led by the Dean, Dr Andrew Azzopardi has paid a courtesy visit to the Leader of the Opposition Dr Simon Busuttil. The Dean was accompanied by Dr Greta Darmanin Kissaun, Deputy Dean and Head, Department of Psychology, Dr Clarissa Sammut Scerri, Head, Department of Family Studies, Dr Natalie Kenely, Head, Department of Social Policy and Social Work, Dr Brenda Murphy, Head, Department of Gender Studies, Ms Vicky Gauci, Head, Department of Disability Studies, Ms Rowena Leontijevic, Faculty Officer and Ms Lara Ellul, Assistant to the Dean.
The Leader of the Opposition was accompanied by Hon Dr Paula Mifsud Bonnici, Shadow Minister for Social Policy, Hon. Dr Stephen Spiteri, Spokesperson for Housing and the fight against poverty and candidate Chris Sansone.
The Dean and the Faculty Staff gave an overview of the complex agenda that the Faculty is involved in, the way the Faculty is constituted and how it operates. A lot of discussion ensued on the role of academia in the community. The Dean emphasized that it is important that the Faculty provides empirical data on the social issues so that the right decisions are taken at policy and political levels. This will ensure that the wellbeing and the quality of life of our communities are safeguarded.
