The University of Malta (UM), Simonds Farsons Cisk plc (SFC), and The Farsons Foundation have signed an Agreement detailing areas of collaboration. The three-year Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Professor Alfred Vella, UM Rector, Mr Louis Farrugia, Chairman of SFC, and Mr Bryan A Gera, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Farsons Foundation, in the presence of UM Pro-Rector Professor Godfrey Baldacchino, Ms Antoinette Caruana (SFC), Mr Kenneth Pullicino (SFC) and Mr Michael Farrugia, Director of SFC, trustee of the Farsons Foundation and Chief Business Development Officer.
The Parties have agreed to identify opportunities for collaborative research with various University departments. These fields of interest to Farsons are intended to include (but are not limited to) Engineering, ICT, Built Heritage, History, Economics, Management, Accountancy, Social Wellbeing, Labour Studies and Food Studies.
The industry-university collaboration shall be identifying experts for their involvement in different initiatives, such as conservation, restoration and interpretation of the old brewery. It shall also develop proposals to be submitted jointly to external funding programmes, actively participate in events organised by the other Party, and provide input to new and existing courses.
Farsons has pledged to sponsor several Dean’s Awards and Annual Prizes for best theses and dissertations, as well as the ad hoc commissioning of studies and of CPD inhouse courses.
