University of Malta Rector, Professor Alfred J. Vella, and Malta IT Agency (MITA) Executive Chairman, Mr Tony Sultana, have signed two collaboration agreements in the presence of the Hon. Silvio Schembri, Parliamentary Secretary for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation, Mr Emanuel Darmanin, Head of MITA’s Department of Strategy and Business, Professor Frank Bezzina, Dean of the University of Malta’s Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy (FEMA) and Dr Ing. Nicholas Sammut, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of ICT.
The purpose of the UM MITA two-year Framework Agreement is to establish a mutually beneficial collaboration that allows for a number of initiatives to take shape according to separate agreements between the Parties. It seeks to give flexibility to both organisations wanting to engage in collaboration across different faculties within the University as well as different teams within MITA. The formal Agreement provides structure to the collaboration, and also helps to provide awareness amongst both Parties of various planned initiatives, thereby avoiding any duplication of efforts.
With MITA being the central driver of Government’s information and communications technology (ICT) policy, programmes and initiatives in Malta, it can offer better exposure of the ICT industry to students from various faculties within the University. Accompanying the Framework Agreement, a Collaboration and Sponsorship Agreement highlights the various initiatives set forth by different actors on both sides as means of collaboration. The first one discussed and agreed to by the Faculty of ICT includes a number of initiatives that MITA is planning, for this academic year.
