Rev. Dr John Anthony Berry has been appointed a member on the international presidium (executive committee) of l’Association Européenne de Théologie Catholique. The members on the new presidium were elected or reconfirmed at the end of a conference organised at the Council of Europe and the University of Strasbourg. Founded in 1989, this society of Theology brings together academics and scholars in Theology from twenty-one European countries. It promotes interdisciplinary research, organises international and regional conferences as well as publishes its bi-annual journal ET Studies.
Berry has also been appointed on the executive standing committee of Societas Oecumenica, a European Society for Ecumenical Research. This took place during the 19th Academic Consultation of the Societas Oecumenica in Helsinki, Finland. This association was founded in 1978 and its members include scholars in ecumenics representative of various European Universities, Church related institutes for ecumenical studies as well as individuals from the European countries who work in the field of ecumenical studies. Societas Oecumenica organises a biennial congress as well as lectures, workshops and open fora.
