The ADRC Trust was founded in 2013 by members of the Chalmers family, in memory of their late son and brother Alistair, whose many interests included Hispanic Studies, especially Latin America, where he travelled extensively and did voluntary work.
In that same year the Trust signed an agreement with the University of Malta establishing the Alistair Chalmers Bursary to be awarded annually to a deserving undergraduate student from the University’s Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies to permit attendance of a residential course at a Portuguese or Spanish university to further her or his studies and improve language skills.
The agreement between the two sides has now been renewed and widened to also include support for the department’s other activities especially seminars, publishing and such like.
The new agreement was signed by the Rector, Professor Alfred Vella, on behalf of the University of Malta, and Mr Roderick and Mrs Mary Rose Chalmers, on behalf of the ADRC Trust, in the presence of their daughter Mrs Amanda Kaye and her children Alexander, Francesca and Ellie, and their son Mr Nicholas Chalmers and his wife Julie and their children Chiara and Sole, with the third generation of Chalmers lending a somewhat less sombre feel to the University’s Council Room.
