Nine students following the University of Malta Faculty of Arts’s M.A. in Mediterranean Studies have just returned from a study trip to Provence.
The tour, led by Dr Charlene Vella, Dr Timmy Gambin and Dr Mark Aloisio, saw the students, accompanied also by guest participants, study sites of archaeological and historical significance to their studies in the regions of Provence and Occitanie.
Held between 20 and 27 May, the group visited Martigues, Aix-en-Provence, Montmajour Abbey, Avignon, Marseille, If, Aigues-Mortes, Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, Arles, Salon-de-Provence, Saint-Chamas and Miramas.
Some highlights included the Palais des Papes, Chateau d’If, Mucem, the Roman wreck Jules-Verne 4, and the gypsy pilgrimage held annually on 24 May.
