On Monday 11 July at 12:00, the University of Malta Students' Futsal team, represented by the President Stefan Cutajar, the Vice-President Nicholas Martinelli and Media Officer Jasmine Agius, paid a courtesy visit to the Rector of the University of Malta, Professor Alfred J. Vella.
The delegation representing the Knights (as UM Futsal is affectionately nicknamed) presented the FMA Knockout Competition Cup to the Rector, who was accompanied by Pro-Rector for Student & Staff Affairs and Outreach Professor Carmen Sammut, the Director of the Institute for Physical Education and Sports (IPES) Dr Andrew Decelis and Sport Manager Mr Oliver Mallia, and Mr Pierre Cassar, Director Marketing, Communications and Alumni.
The UM Futsal representatives gave the Rector and his esteemed colleagues a brief overview of the progress made by the sport student society during the 2017/18 season which culminated in the students' victory in the final of the Knockout Cup against local futsal juggernauts Luxol St Andrews Futsal.
Furthermore, both sides discussed the challenges faced by small amateur clubs competing in national competitions and agreed that further work is needed to improve relations between the two entities and secure better synergies for the benefit of sport on Campus.
