On 14 and 15 December an intensive training seminar on media accessibility and subtitling for the deaf and hard-of-hearing was delivered to the Audiovisual Translation students by guest trainer Pablo Romero Fresco (Honorary professor in Translation and Filmmaking at the University of Roehampton, Director of the International research centre for media accessibility “Galma”, and Ramón y Cajal researcher at the Universidade de Vigo).
The Audiovisual Translation specialisation was launched in October at the Department of Translation, Terminology and Interpreting Studies and is coordinated by Dr Giselle Spiteri Miggiani. Audiovisual Translation also encompasses the so-called accessibility modes for the visually and aurally impaired. One of the aims of this postgraduate specialisation is to explore the possibility of implementing and developing accessibility services in the Maltese language, applied to the local media, broadcasting and film industry, as well as in the theatre and cultural sector.
