UM doctoral student Carlos Cañas Sanz is awarded 1st prize for his research on walkability at international conference in London.
University of Malta doctoral student Carlos Cañas Sanz was awarded 1st prize for the presentation of his research on walkability which he is carrying out at the Institute for Climate Change and Sustainable Development under the supervision of Prof. Maria Attard and Prof. Muki Haklay (University College London).
The prize was reviewed and awarded by the Transport Geography Research Group at the Royal Geographical Society Annual Meeting, which was held in London in the last week of August. Mr Cañas was up against a select group of post-graduate researchers from around the world presenting their work at the international conference.
The Institute for Climate Change and Sustainable Development was also represented by Suzanne Maas, doctoral student working on bicycle sharing schemes in Mediterranean Islands and supervised by Prof. Maria Attard. Ms Maas presented preliminary results of her surveys in Limassol, Cyprus and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Ms Rosalie Camilleri also delivered a presentation about her doctoral research with the Institute. Ms Camilleri is working on the interface between transport and climate change and is supervised by Prof. Maria Attard and Dr Robin Hickman (Bartlett School of Planning, UCL).
