The first-ever point for Malta in Futsal Qualifiers was scored by the Maltese National Team after playing against Greece, and achieving a 1-1 draw.
The team was made up of players from the University of Malta as well as other winning teams.
Coach Zeljko Anicic made use of two lines of play with Jovica Miljic, George Frendo, Mark Zammit and Firas Aboulezzon on the first line, and the second line was made up of players Carl Azzopardi, Giancarlo Sammut, Andy Mangion and Marwan Telissi.
A clear-cut opportunity to score came two minutes from the interval when Maltese keeper Stefan Vella had to swerve a shot blocked by Greek keeper, Dimitris Zervas.
Following a halftime score of 0-0, 18 seconds into the second half of the match, the Maltese team forged ahead when player Carl Azzopardi sneaked a bal from the Greek defence to poke the ball into the net.
A relentless Greek reaction reaped rewards when Greek player Dimitrios Karmis levelled with a low shot and slightly hitting Maltese player Carl Azzopardi to level the score for Greece.
Well done to all team members involved!
