The end of the first semester was particularly special for three MD students who received prizes for the accomplishments during the 2019-20 Pathology final exams.

• Ms Michaela Mifsud from Kercem Gozo received the College of Pathologists prize for first in course
• Mr Miguel Vella from Gharghur, Malta and Mr Peter Sciberras from Qala, Gozo received the Department of Pathology prize for joint second.

The prizes were handed out by Dr James Degaetano President of the Malta College of Pathologists and Prof. Alex Gatt, Head of Department of Pathology at the University of Malta.

As the commemorative picture demonstrates, this year masks were donned in order to minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmission during the brief ceremony.

Even though the presentation was relatively 'low key' when compared to previous years, the Department of Pathology felt that it was imperative to recognise all the hard work and significant effort that these students have put in their Pathology undergraduate training.

The Department sincerely hopes that their interest in this field continues to grow, so that one day they might perhaps choose one of the Pathology subspecialties for their postgraduate studies.
