Prof Lilian Azzopoardi, Head of Department at the Faculty of Pharmacy says that “Collaborative agreements between the Department of Pharmacy and pharmaceutical stakeholders facilitate the dialogue within the pharmaceutical dimension, support relevance in pharmacy education and research so as to provide fertile ground for evolvements in the national pharmaceutical systems and the industry.”
The agreement with A.M. Mangion Ltd. is another milestone in the Department’s collaboration with stakeholders in the pharmaceutical scenario in Malta. Through these agreements, the Department contributes to the contemporary needs of the pharmaceutical sector.
Jonathan Mangion, CEO at A.M. Mangion Ltd. continued by saying “ We invest heavily in education; education of our staff, as we strive to continuously improve. It is our responsibility to invest in the Healthcare sector, be it in training of Nurses, Technicians, Doctors, Surgeons, Pharmacists through workshops, seminars, practical procedures and so on. It is even more important to invest in the future and that is the students of today. It is our pleasure to support the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Malta and we will continue to do so as we do our part in helping to create well rounded, professional, creative minds of the future.”
The Department also has a collaborative agreement with the College of Pharmacy of the University of Illinois at Chicago. Through these agreements, pharmacy students are provided with the opportunity to be exposed to pharmaceutical activities in patient care and in the
manufacture of medicines. Graduates of pharmacy and pharmaceutical technology are equipped to be engaged in practice, science and research in various areas such as pharmaceutical regulatory sciences, clinical pharmacy and pharmaceutical technology leading to ensuring the quality, safety and efficacy of medicines. The Department celebrates today’s occasion as an example of the excellent relations that it holds with pharmaceutical stakeholders and looks forward to continuing to expand such collaborations.
The University of Malta rector stressed the importance of keeping the channels of communication open between the entities entering this collaboration, remarking that this will help both entities reflect on new ways to explore the pharmaceutical advancements and together provide more learning opportunities for students within the sector.
“I am certain that this collaboration will be fruitful to all parties involved, especially to our pharmaceutical students. At the University of Malta we will keep expanding our research opportunities and thanks to A.M. Mangion Ltd. we are able to offer more research initiatives in the pharmacy practice.” said the University Rector.
