Prof. Irene Sciriha, at the Faculty of Science successfully co–authored a mathematical book with Dr Alexander Farrugia, a senior Mathematics lecturer at Junior college. A copy of the book called ‘The mathematical 2 chemistry monograph ‘From Nut Graphs to Molecular Structure and Conductivity,’ was presented to the University rector Prof. Alfred J. Vella earlier this week. This book is one of their latest publication, other works by Prof. Scriha include Zero forcing sets and the minimum rank of graphs (published in 2008).
This book relates the authors’ experience of an enjoyable, often bumpy, passage that started with Sciriha’s attempt to answer a simple mathematical curiosity, way back in 1994. Singular graphs are at the centre of their research, a theory that has allowed them to draw joy by producing interesting outcomes from their creations of coherent axioms.
The unified analytic treatment proved to fit like a glove to understand known chemical phenomena and predict novel results particularly on nano–molecules used in electrical circuits.
