A physics lecture with a difference for UM students, where better than at an airport hangar to learn about aerodynamics?
Instead of the typical lecture room or lab, physics students visited the SR Technics hangar in Safi. The lecture on aerodynamics was coordinated by senior Lecturer Dr Anthony Galea. This industrial visit was organised by the University of Malta at SR Technics.
Some of the questions that were raised during the lecture were 'How do aeroplanes measure their airspeed?' and 'What is the use of winglets at the tip of the aircraft's wing?'
The aerodynamics lecture, part of the Fluid Mechanics study unit (PHY3225), has been successfully delivered at an airport hangar for the last five years.
This event was organised thanks to a collaboration between the Department of Physics (Faculty of Science) and SR Technics.
