An agreement between the University of Malta and the Ministry for Gozo was signed last Tuesday, 28 June in Victoria, Gozo.
Through this collaboration an amount of €140,000 will be given to University for further excavation projects and research on the Phoenician Shipwreck found in Xlendi, Gozo. Present at the signing were, the Rector, Prof Alfred J. Vella and Prof Timmy Gambin, a professor at the Faculty of Arts, Hon Clint Camilleri, the Minister for Gozo and Mr John Borg, the Permenant Secretary at the Ministry.
The University Rector, Prof Alfred J. Vella thanked the Ministry for Gozo, in particular the Minister, Hon Clint Camilleri, who will continue to support the work done by University and its researchers to get a better idea of our Maltese historic events.
The Shipwreck is currently at 110m below sea level. The goal is that after this shipwreck is fully conserved, it will be available to view by the public in the near future.
