Dr Josephine Deguara, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Early Childhood and Primary Education, Faculty of Education, has been appointed Committee Member and Research Coordinator of the International Teaching and Learning Special Interest Group (ITLSIG). The group was initiated by Dr Gladson Chikwa, a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (now Advance HE) and an experienced Educational Developer working at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. More than 50 academics from universities worldwide, including China, Hong Kong, Malta, New Zealand, Oman, the UK, the USA and Zimbabwe, are active members of the ITLSIG.
ITLSIG is an interdisciplinary and international Community of Practice with an interest in teaching, learning, assessment and pedagogical research in the Higher Education sector. The aims of the ITLSIG are to:
- Share effective approaches to teaching, learning and assessment practices
- Foster deployment of creative and innovative pedagogies
- Develop and disseminate collaborative and cooperative research.
- Learn from, and support each other in our professional development.
- Promote interdisciplinary working.
- Cultivate new international affiliations
The ITLSIG holds bimonthly sessions for its members, where different aspects of teaching and learning, assessment and pedagogical research in Higher Education context are discussed. The group is currently working on publishing an edited book entitled, “Innovations in Teaching, Learning and Assessment in Higher Education: Contemporary Global Perspectives”.
