Prof. Charles Scerri from the Department of Pathology has been invited to chair a session at the G20 ‘Defeating Dementia’ Congress organised at the Hague, The Netherlands, on Monday 2 October 2023.
The Congress, which brought together high-level policy makers and top scientists from across the world, discussed key issues and challenges in the dementia field including better diagnosis and management of dementia, reducing the health and economic costs through prevention, societal inclusion of individuals living with dementia, global research initiatives and the role of technology in care and support systems.
In his intervention, Prof. Scerri stressed on the need to find solutions on multiple barriers that limit societal participation which often lead to discrimination and loss of personhood.
In his closing speech, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, highlighted the important role that policy makers and scientists play in affecting change. The Congress was hosted by the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports.
