Prof. Ivan Callus and Prof. James Corby, members of the University of Malta’s Department of English and editors of the Edinburgh University Press journal CounterText, have recently been elected as Fellows of the prestigious English Association. This honour is in recognition of their “outstanding work and achievements” in the field of English studies.
Founded in 1906 by a small group of English teachers and scholars, including F.S. Boas, A.C. Bradley and Sir Israel Gollancz, the English Association stands as one of the most respected organisations in the discipline of English. Its mission is to promote the study, teaching, and appreciation of English literature and language. Being elected as a Fellow of the English Association is a highly prestigious accolade, reserved for individuals who have made outstanding contributions to English studies. A small number of nominated Fellows is chosen each year by the Fellowship Committee and approved by the Board of Trustees. There are currently only 320 Fellows worldwide, each of whom has been elected in recognition of their distinguished academic achievements and contributions to the field.
Prof. Callus and Prof. Corby follow in the distinguished footsteps of Prof. Peter Vassallo, Senior Fellow of the Department of English, who was elected Fellow of the English Association in 2011.
