The University of Malta has been focusing on improving its student support services through a number of initiatives. One of the latest ones has been the launch of the brand-new handbook issued by the Student Help Hub, titled âYour Guide to University Lifeâ.
The 34-page handbook includes a UM Dictionary, which gives students a good idea of the top management roles within UM, what they entail and how they may be contacted, an updated marking and grading structure for undergraduate courses, a guide to student online resources (myUM app, eSIMS, VLE, Turnitin), a guide to student support services (Help Hub, Health & Wellness Centre, Counselling Services, ACCESS Disability Support Unit, International Office, Student Advisory Services, Chaplaincy, Equity Office, Student Solidarity Fund, etc), a section about KSU and what it offers, a detailed Academic Calendar, more info on how to join student organisations, a list of the UM campuses, as well as a list of the feedback forms that can be submitted by students (student feedback, complaints, sexual harassment claim, etc).
âUnderstanding how the University works and where to get help when required has huge potential on the learning and teaching experienced by students on campus, which is key to their successâ, UM Rector, Prof. Alfred J. Vella wrote in the foreword to the handbook.
âThe University Cares. Beyond its structures and regulations, UM fosters a supportive community and each member must contribute to this environmentâ, wrote UMâs Pro-Rector for Student & Staff Affairs and Outreach, Prof. Carmen Sammut.
The handbook is accessible online or from the Help Hub office which is situated at Students House, near Quadrangle.
