On Wednesday 9 October 2024, the heirs of the late Prof. John Rizzo Naudi generously donated his extensive collection of papers to the University of Malta library.
Mr Kevin J. Ellul, Director of the UM Library Services, said “We are deeply grateful for this generous donation. These papers represent not only a significant addition to our collection but also a valuable resource for present and future scholars, as well as the wider community. We will ensure that they continue to inspire and educate for generations to come. This gift is also a testament to the family’s commitment to knowledge and history, and we are honoured to be entrusted with it.”
Born on 25 December 1925, Prof. Rizzo Naudi pursued his studies in the UK, establishing a distinguished career as a medical doctor and professor of medicine at the University of Malta.
In addition to these academic contributions, he served as a Member of Parliament during the 1980’s and 1990’s, resigning from politics in 1995.
That same year, he was appointed Chancellor of the University of Malta.
"Prof. Rizzo Naudi’s contributions to public health, health service management and the care of the elderly remain as an enduring legacy to Maltese society", commented UM Rector, Prof. Alfred J. Vella, who attended the presentation.
His remarkable career is reflected in the collection of private papers, which will now be available for researchers and students to browse through.
