Final year International MBA students taking the hands-on Entrepreneurship elective on the Core MBA stream at the Faculty of Economics, Management & Accountancy (FEMA), presented their start-up concepts to a panel of seasoned professionals active in the entrepreneurship scene at a recent GEW 2024 pitching event.
This event aligned with the MBA participants’ business start-up idea and feasibility analysis project, which forms an integral part of their elective.
The international MBA cohort comprising participants representing some 7 different nationalities presented their evolving business concepts – ranging from personalised lifestyle and digital apps, to green and sustainability solutions.
The MBA pitch review panel was made up of:
- Prof. Leonie Baldacchino (Edward de Bono Institute, UM);
- Mr Pierre Mallia (Founder and CEO, iMovo);
- Ing. Michelle Cortis (Director, Corporate Research & Knowledge Transfer, UM); and
- Mr Pier Massa (Director, COO and Regional Head - Europe at Pilot.Lite Ventures, London).
The opportunity provided the cohort of practising professionals on the International MBA useful insight and an extent of stress-testing towards further developing and validating pursuit of their business start-up ideas.
Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) events spanning 6-20 November saw some 10 million people in over 180 countries around the world involved in some 40,000 different events – stimulating and inspiring entrepreneurial activity in challenging times characterised by global uncertainty.
GEW is hosted nationally by the Edward de Bono Institute for Creative Thinking & Innovation – while the MBA applied Entrepreneurship elective is coordinated and delivered by Dr Nathaniel Massa, together with Dr Antonietta Rosiello, at FEMA.
Dr Massa and Dr Rosiello thanked all panel members and commended the collaborative initiatives undertaken by the local GEW organisers.
On completing their entrepreneurship elective, several among the International MBA participants may be looking into the prospects of taking their ideas further. In this regard, the Faculty augurs the students well on their enterprising initiatives.
On a related note, FEMA has now just launched its NEW postgraduate executive flagship programme: the International MBA.
Modular and totally redesigned, it presents a new curriculum of purposely designed applied masterclasses and workshops aligned with increasingly complex, disruptive and competitive realities; with at its core an immersive delivery modality catering for the needs of working professionals – whether based locally, or residing abroad.
Participants on FEMA’s new International MBA programme are mostly professionals engaged in industry and various sectors, generally in management and executive positions. Their exposure and diverse experiential knowledge contributes to the applied learning environment fostered by FEMA on this executive international programme.
Incorporating an international study-visit abroad, the International MBA is tailored for practising professionals, managers, and others seeking to stretch and upgrade their holistic capabilities, or aspiring to higher positions of responsibility within their organisations – besides those seeking a sound foundation and insight towards effectively establishing and running their own business in increasingly competitive environments.
